It's true, as Cat stated, that a divorce does not settle an obligation with a creditor. HOWEVER, you are beyond the SOL for VA. The SOL for VA is 3 years from the date of the *last payment*, so the SOL expired 2/2004. Send them Why Chat's SOL letter. They are unlikely to sue once they get that letter, and if they do it will be a violation of the FDCPA. Given the circumstances surrounding the alleged debt, I wouldn't consider paying it either. :-)
