Anyone familiar with Paypal and legalities? Plz read if so

My husband who died had a paypal account and left it with a negative balance. It was his account, but he put our joint credit card on it for charges. Paypal says that if the balance is not paid it is sent to collections. My question is, am I liable for this balance since it was my husband's paypal account? I'm unsure because he provided our joint credit card and joint bank account to verify who he was. Any help would be great.
