My boyfriend (who I am now trying to help sort out this situation) had a credit card with MBNA. He tried to work with them about payments but they only made verbal commitments and never followed through. Then one day this July we receive in the mail a letter from MBNA saying will charge off the debt unless he pays some amount before 4PM the next day...although they date was in May 2004. We still aren't sure why we got it two months late. Anyway, we called and it had gone to Collect America. Calling them it had gone to lawyers already Cambece in MA (we are in Michigan). I've read a lot of other postings and we aren't sure what to do. We're both college students but he owes a little more than $9,000 (most is accumulated late fees etc). He was told the best way is to write a letter to this lawyer and try to work on a payment plan with them -- is it worth it? I'm worried because CA never called him and the lawyer hasn't yet either. I'm wondering if things are happening and we don't even know about it. I know its a long post but I'd really appreciate ANY advice THANK YOU!!!
