Protect assets, especially banking info. If he has ever paid MBNA with his current checking account, they have his banking info. What state are you in? Open a new account with your name as primary, or just let him pay his bills with cash or money order. Whatever works best for the two of you.

There is a lot of psychology in debt collection. Don't believe anything a CA tells you. They lie and threaten, it is the way they do business. 99% of what a CA says is bull.
