RMA probably bought the account from Amex. Amex won't accept payments because they can't, the account is sold, and they took the tax write-off.

For the moment, do nothing. RMA is a collector, by definition, a lowlife opportunist never to be trusted, much less paid. You tried to settle with Amex, you're still honest-heartedly trying. This speaks well of you, and directly illustrates the greed and perversity of this third-party collection system.

RMA generally doesn't sue. For the moment, stay in touch. With regard to RMA, say little, put nothing in writing, touch no one. You've many friends here, who live to see the day when the likes of Rufus 'Bud' Reitzel is booed out of the stock exchange, rather than given the 'honor' of opening it, as he did two weeks ago today.
