Are survivors' benefits exempt from garnishment?

My entire monthly income is made up of survivors' benefits for myself and 2 children. The checks are automatically deposited and before I became delinquent I paid most of my bills via e-bill so the OCs has my banking info. I've been with this bank since 1973 and my mortgage is with them which is automatically deducted. Would changing acct. numbers be good enough or do I have to go to another bank to prevent any chance of having funds frozen? Also don't they have to give some type of notice before freezing the funds?
