No, they gave you nothing in writing that would bind them to any agreement.

When did you last pay the original creditor before the account became deliquent. What state are you in.

You should stay off the radar and let the SOL run. Paying a CA will not help your credit report. Texas is a consumer freindly state. They can not touch your homestead or garnish your wages. You must be careful about banking info though. Since you paid the CA with your current checking account, you gave them your banking info. In Texas, if they can convince a judge that you will take your money out of the bank in order to avoid paying the debt, a judge can freeze the account before they get a judgment. GO GET YOUR MONEY OUT OF THAT BANK ASAP. NOW..........
