There is no "one size fits all" in dealing with credit problems.

In general, if you are reasonably sure the account IS yours, the best tactic is to lay low and wait out the SOL. If, however, you are being called constantly at work or at home, a LIMITED cease and desist stating that you wish to ONLY be contacted by mail, will help you.

If, however, the account is near or past SOL, if the CA is from outside your State(ESPECIALLY in those States like Ca. that have STRICT requirements for out of State CA's)then you should send the SOL letter.

You should, in my OPINION, request "validation" under several circumstances, a NEW account JUST turned over to a CA THAT IS NOT YOURS, an OLD account that is WAY past SOL and where you have reason to believe the CA has illegally re-aged the account on your reports, or is harrassing you, and you want a "paper trail" to file complaints and/or file suit.

If you fear being sued, and are vulnerable to garnishment, liens etc. (which I do NOT believe "Mia" is) then you should, in my opinion, not stir things up. If you are in Tx.or Ky.or Tenn. where it is easy for a creditor to FREEZE (not garnish) your bank account BEFORE filing a lawsuit, you should take steps to protect yourself.

"Mia" is, in my opinion, worried unneccessarily, wage garnishment is 25 % of your net take home pay, UNLESS the exempt amount exceeds 75%.No one wants an older car, paid off or not, unless she has a Porsche or other VERY expensive car.

She should STOP talking to CA's, it is a WASTE of time and energy and just encourages them.
