I think the debt belongs to my ex husband who forged my name and used my SS to get a credit card. Would not be the first time or the first CA to be after me for him.

Actually the IRS was after me for 30,000 dollars. He forged my name on joint returns and forged checks they sent with my name. Found out when I applied for financial aid for grad school. Went through a year of harrassement and investigations before the IRS took ALL of the debt out of my name and admitted fraud on this part. (I had Barbara Boxer and Vic Fazio keep emailing the IRS "harrassing" them to look into it until they finally did. Also wrote every top official for every regional office once a month for year) I wanted the results of the investigation on paper but they refused just said my account was clear. So I can't prove it. They garnished his check and he skipped the country 6 years ago because he couldn't afford the child support and IRS garnishment. IRS really harrassed me and sent nasty letters. I hate to say it but I think this is more of the same. I thought it was over.

I won't admit to the CA that I think it was forged. I am afraid that if they know it was an ex husband and he is gone they will find a way to make it my debt. It is hard to prove fraud I already know that. I know his signature though and if they did have the orginal contract I could tell by looking at it if he signed it.

I just want to wait out SOL which is up in Feb 2005. I am so close.
