Unless and until they can prove that you had signed personal responsibility for the account,OR the business was not a Corp. and you gave them YOUR SS# rather than a business EIN #, then you have, in my opinion, no liability.

However, as a business account,you also do not have any of the consumer protection afforded under the FDCPA, so you might wish to consult with a lawyer, and have him/her send AMEX a LEGAL denial of responsibility for the account.
