Ok, on the SUMMONS it will spell out when you need to respond by. It should say something to the effect of "You must respond within 20 days of the service of this Summons." That means you need to file your NOTICE OF APPEARANCE and you ANSWER within that time frame or you will lose by default. These must be filed with the lawyer who is suing you and the court. You dont go to any type of trial to do this, you just turn in paperwork. Any trial, if at all, will most definitely be AT LEAST 30-90 days AFTER you file your answer. If you still cant figure out the Summons, go to the court and ask them, they are there to answer questions like that, they dont bite. Check out whychat's website on how to write an appearance and an answer, its really not hard. Good luck, and DO NOT let them win by default. File your paperwork!!!
