Yes, I'm in Alabama. I do have assets...my home and a car that's paid for. That's all that's left. They may know about the house, as it's a matter of public record, but I don't know yet if it's exempt under Alabama law. I still have to locate that information.

Being able to check court records is new information - thanks for that great tip...and for all of the responses to my questions.
