New Jersey SOL on credit cards and loans from fiance companies

The CA sent me a letter telling me that the above account has been assigned to us for collection. The above entitiled account is in default and your attention is needed to settle this matter. To prevent further collection efforts please pay the above amount. They also left messages on my answering machine telling me to call a 1-800 #, a name to ask for and a reference #. The last message I received said to call by 12 noon or a decision would be made for me. This account is over 7 years old. Is the order of disposition that I received in 1997 stating that a default was entered (in reference to this account) the same as a Judgement? If so, what can I do? Thank you for your help.
