Here's my thing. I screwed up. I trusted a debt settlement company to help me, but I'm screw now with 4 charge-offs. I think the last one just got there. Briefly. Here's the situation on each. 2 cards were with citi and went to the same collection agency. On one I have 1800 and the other 1300 left. I am making payments of 105 on each a month with no interest. I am okay there except for the bad marks. At least I think I am okay. 1 other visa card, balance of 1300 is the same situation except this collection agency isn't as nice to work with. I am making montly payments to them. But these aren't automated. HERE'S THE BIG QUESTION: I am in the worst spot with AMEX. After all the fees and stuff got applied, I owe the collection agency or AMEX, I don't know which, $7000. Obviously (or I would have) I can't pay that. But I can affort montly payments of $100 to $150, but I might just stay at $100. Is this an unreasonable request? I talked to them twice last week and they wanted me to come up with the money, but the second time I called, they weren't as nice as the first. I am afraid they won't accept monthly payments. Should I talk to them and send them a written request. Just send the request. What happens if I don't talk to them. I which I could talk to someone one on one with this. I have never been in this spot and didn't realize I would get so screwed. 6 months ago my credit was fine, now, not so much. I live in California. I own a condo in Utah, but had to move to California for work. I rent here and have a friend covering my mortgage and fees in Utah as he lives there. Can they do anything with this? That's about all the assets I really have. I have a personal loan through a credit union, for my computer, but the loan is unsecured. My car is paid off, but it's 9 years old. I have 2 more cards that have small balances that I am keeping so I do have a card and can rebuild my credit. I don't make a lot, 30k, in Los Angeles. Sorry this is lengthy. I just figured I should include the problem and the situation I am at in life.
