Hi Tina, So sorry to hear about you battle with the big C. Glad you're still around to battle the other big C (credit - excuse my play on words). My Mom is a cancer survivor, I was/am her primary caretaker. These folks don't understand what you've been through. However, I can tell you for sure, they can't do anything to you that will be worse than what you've been through already with the cancer. If I were you, I would file bankruptcy chapter 7, and tell them all to shove it. Once you file, it all goes away. They cannot do anything to you. This is what bankruptcy is for - it is protection under the law from creditors who won't work with you when you are in dire straits. If you are careful, you can rebuild your credit within 2 years after the bankruptcy, and in 10 years the bankruptcy will disappear off your credit reports. If this is against your principles or your conscience, then it really depends on what state you are in, what they can do to you. They can get judgments against you, and garnish your salary in some states (not all). Generally speaking, they can't take other things, since credit card debt is unsecured debt. But they will harrass you until they write it off, then they will sell the debts to collection agencies who will put more bad stuff on your credit report, and also harrass you. With the bankruptcy, it all ends. I don't advocate not paying debts, but your situation is a little different. Linda
