I want to make a settlement with them. Since about 60% of the debt is in late fees, over-the-limit fees (which they manipulated, anyway), and such, I want to settle for probably 60-70% of the debt amount. Here's the kicker: I want them to agree to remove the record my prior late payments in exchange for my paying them again. What do you think?

It might work. They'll probably claim that their reporting agreements with the credit bureaus prevent them from making deals like that, but when they see you're serious they may very well relent. Just make sure that you get the deletion agreement in writing before you pay anything!
