debt expiration

The Statute of Limitations has expired on a debt that I owe. I need to know this; If the debt has been on my credit report for 7 years, and the Statute has expired, is there a way that I can get this off my report? Or, will it remain on there since I never paid the debt off? I was once told that if a debt isn't paid in 7 years, it would have to be removed from your credit report. Is this true? If so, how do I go about getting this taken off? By the way, the debt was for an auto loan. Any advice would be appreciated!!!
