Linda,

I stumbled upon this site today looking for information on how to deal with old debt's and collection agencies. You seem very knowledgeable and sincere in you're advise so I'm hoping you can help me.

You made the comment on a previous post "They can get judgments against you, and garnish your salary in some states (not all). Generally speaking, they can't take other things, since credit card debt is unsecured debt. "

Do you know if this is true for Texas. I got myself into serious financial trouble about 4 to 5 years ago. Since then I stopped using credit completely, started my own business, and have managed to save a signifacant sum of money. I am concerned that a judgement might take a chunk away.

I am willing to make payments I just really don't want to make them to the collection agency. I moved overseas two years ago and this collection agency starting calling my parents about four months ago and calls nearly every day! I tried to call the collection agency many times over several weeks and I always receive a buzy signal.

Anyway, if they do try to take me to court, what court would have jurisdiction, Texas which I haven't lived in for over two years, or Puerto Rico, a US territory where I have been living since leaving Texas?

A funny thing has been occurring as well. It seems that as I pay off each debt, a new collection agency will pop-up trying to collect on another unrelated but unfortunately accurate debt. I am confident that I am down to the final two so no new jerks should be calling. Do they know of my financial situation because my credit report is improving (I'm assuming, I haven't checked) or could they know of my savings and investment accounts?

Please help, I'm tired of losing sleep.
Robert

ps I accidently posted this as a reply to a message from 7/2 under my fiancee name. She was going to post at first.
