defaulted on loan

My Daughter (an adult) defaulted on a loan by not making payments for 4 months. The loan was sold to a group of lawyers and they are demanding payment in full now. The loan is $13,000. We can help her with the back payments and get her on track but not pay the whole thing off for her.
My question is can they demand she pay in full? Can she make payments to them just as she should have to the loan company?
We do not want to have our name involved but do want to get her out of the problem.
any help would be appriciated.
