I would suggest that she get the name and address of the "lawyers" and check to see if it is really a law firm. Collection agencies will often say or imply that they are attorneys when they are really just collection agencies. If this is the case, they are breaking the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and then you could take other steps against them, and probably make them go away.
