I have been a Capital One cardholder for two years(never late or overlimit) and recently was billed for my annual $60 "membership fee". I called to close my account because I felt that it was too high and I didn't want to pay it. I was informed that the only way that an account could be closed was if the balance in full was paid within 30 days and even then, they would not take off the annual fee! I then was transferred to an "account maint. specialist" who informed me that they couldn't report an account to the credit bureau as closed if it still had an outstanding balance which is a blatant lie. I worked in credit for years and dealt with these situations daily! I feel that I was discriminated against due to having a reestablish your credit account. I checked the agreements from all of my other creditors and not one states that I have to have a zero balance to close an account. Sorry about the long post..I just really needed to vent as I am extremely frustrated and feel that this is a very deceptive and unfair practice. Wow, I just noticed that they have an ad on this page, too.
