If you want to take your chances, you can look up the SOL and see how much longer you will have to dodge these CA's before you can get out of paying. Your credit will still be screwed for a long time.

AmEx is pretty good to people who honor their obligations to them, they will even remove derogs off your CR before the reporting time is up.
