At cap one, your account will go into closing status, until the balance is at 0 for 30 days. Then it will permanently close. If I were you, I would go ahead and close it. They will waive the fee for you if you place it in closing status. If you have never been late, someone will probably contact you to try and get you to reopen the card, at which time you can ask if they will lower or waive your annual fees. Just a hint though, you will probably save more if you ask for a lower interest rate instead.

Try another rep, hate to say it, but half the time I call about my card, they don't know what they are talking about!

Cap one is a good company, but you have to stay on top of them, ask for what you want, and be persistent.
