Old Debt

My wife recently received a call from a collections officer with Capital Acquisition & Mgmnt Company. They are trying to collect a debt from an old credit card balance. We obtained a copy of her credit report and there is no mention of this account on her report. Furthermore, we live in Kentucky and she said she had been told by the company (several years ago) that it had been charged off. What is the best way to handle this?
