Thank you for your thoughtful response and most of all your time. I had a feeling about Freddy as his postings are usually tinged with a pang for the "fiduciary responsibility of the debtor." In my case, he did freak me a bit. Yes I am very stressed. I had been paying on these cards for 4 years mostly not falling behind. But then my disability got me and I needed open heart surgery and what can I say just pull out the string section here. Suddenly the rates were 22-24.9% and i was spinning in the sand. Yes, I was an authorized user on these accounts but I did incur more debt after her death. That is my guilt here. I live in Rhode Island which from whychats info pages seems like one of the toughest states. (No homestead exemption, etc.) My partner works in neighboring Mass and the account is Union Credit Union which receives a direct deposit. Right now I am at the point where about 6 months has passed since the last payment. Believe me if I had it I'd give it up. That is what I have been doing for four years. I believe that these accounts have not left the domain of the credit card company yet and not officially at a collection agent. My fear is my partner's house. I am not on the deed but I fear the worst. Today i have had two calls: one from a mean lady and another from someone who acted mamby-pamby and had some "questions that needed answering". Again, thanks for your time.
