Creidt reporting periods and CO's

I have several chargeoffs on my credit report and have been pondering either filing CH 7 or trying to settle these accts. If I have a CC that was charged off 3 years ago, and I pay it off now, when does it drop off my credit report...in 4 years or do I restart the clock by paying and I now have 7 years?
