gulf state credit

Help please.......I made a phone call to gulf state credit collection asking them to please hold a post dated check i gave them ...due to a death in the family, our resources were low. the manager and the assistant manager said no....i could not do that...i told them they reniged on their contract with me, due to the fact that we had settled this account for a determined amount and they were supposed to follow up with a written letter confirming this amount...which they have not done, and i was still receiving bills from them with the old amount on them. Since i had given them 4 installment payments, they said i could call at any time to them to let them know if i had a problem with the upcoming post dated check. When i did this, they said NO NO NO.... you must make these payments.....again i advised them of their agreement, even though it was vebal, they accepted this agreement, by cashing 2 of the 4 checks.....i told them to please consider this account as paid in full now, since they would not tell me how much they bought the account for, (is that legal?) and DON OT TRY TO CASH THE REMAINING 2 CHECKS. Well, i called our bank and stopped payment! When i made a phone call to our bank via the electronic banking system, they tried to cash 1 of the 2 remaining checks that i stopped payment on, thank goodness it was returned! HELP HELP HELP!!!!! DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW!
