question about rebuilding credit

I recently got married and I am in the process of rebuilding my credit after racking up nearly $15,000 in debt approx. 2 years ago. Many accounts have charge offs as well as a repo of a car from loosing my job. I will have this paid off completely in the next two to three years. I have landed a very good job with a well known company and I am financially secure for now. My wife and I will be wanting to purchase a house after we have paid these debts off. Will this be possible or am I screwed for the next 7 years? Does anyone recommend getting a secured credit card to help with this or should I use my money to pay back this debt? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
