Yes, they have to serve you. However, they might try to serve you at a different address. One of the tricks used is to serve you at an old address, or a relatives address, so that you do not know the case is going to court, and they get "default" judgment against you. Is WA the state where the debt was incurred?

Another thing to check re "tricks" used: if you have a dompany name and address of the person trying to collect on this, check and see if it really is an attorney. Unscrupulous collectors will say they are attorneys when they are not, because it scares people into paying.
