They have 2 ways to proceed, but neither one involves immediately seizing any assets. They can take the civil route, and you will get served with a court summons, where they will proceed to get a judgment against you, and then they can take your money from your bank account; or they can take the criminal route, and have you prosecuted for "uttering." If it is a small amount, it is a misdemeanor. Yo should pay the checks immdeiately, whatever the cost. You really could end up with a criminal conviction if they are mad enough. Writing bad checks is illegal.

Pizza and groceries?? It's not worth it.
