Hi Fred,

Never believe anything a collection agency tells you - they would rather tell a lie than tell the truth. Click on the link at the left which says "credit problems" and do a little research. If a collection agency calls you ask for the name of the person you are speaking with, the name and address of the agency, say "Thank you. Please don't call me anymore." and hang up. Do not talk to them at all, and definitely do not answer any questions or make any promises to pay them. Anything you way is used against you in the worst way possible. Then send the letters you are entitled to send under the Fair Debt Collection Parctices Act. The first one asks them to prove that you owe the money to them. The second one tells them to cease communications with you. Most will go away at this point.

Some states/municipalities will get a tax lien of some sort and report it on your credit record. Most will just take it out of your state income tax refund when you file. Some don't do anything at all. Looks like yours sent it to a collection agency.

I would contact the municipality where you got the tickets. Could be they aren't expecting any money from you at this point, depending on how long it has been. If they still are expecting payment, perhaps they will negotitate arrangements with you. Always put government agencies on the top of your list. They have a lot of power, and you don't want to ignore them.

From the tone of your first post, I suggest that you "turn it over."

"More will be revealed."

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just ignore these comments. ;)

Linda
