collection agency question (please help)

a neighbour told me this weekend that a girl called claiming to be a frien of my wifes that she had lost contact with 2 years ago. My neighbour (whom I barley know) thuoght it was strange and actually new it was a collection agency although she never I dentified with whom she worked - again only her name and a toll free number. I have looked at the Fair collection protection thingy - and it appears as though they can call family and friends, but do neighbours whom you don;t know fall in that - and can she claim to be a friend looking for our phone number. Should I call them or just tell the lawyer at the end of august or middle of september when I can afford for my wife to declare bankputcy?
