Sister-In-Law ran up credit cards

My sister in law (Lorraine Zamora-Medina) in december of 1994 ran up my credit cards with my permission stating (unfornately, not in writting) that she would pay me back after she received money from a car accident she was in. She than said after she got her money she could not pay me because she did not want her husband to know that she charged items for her and her family. This has caused a get rift between my husband and me because it also ruined his credit. I paid on the bills until 1997 than became disabled and could no longer afford to pay on my credit cards. Is there anything that I can do or am I just out of luck?
