I'm trying to find a way to pay off my credit card bills, but the interest is a major setback. I don't want to declare bankruptcy, and I'm leery of debt consolidators.

Right now I have no late payments, and a total of 4 credit cards with about $14,000 total debt (in addition to a student loan, which I am not concerned about because it is a low-interest-rate, minor burden, which looks better on my credit report than anything else on it.)

Is there a way I can negotiate lower interest with my credit card companies, without adversely affecting my credit rating? Linda, you seem to be the credit guru, any advice? Thanks in advance.
