If you were not properly served you can have the judgement set aside. Your credit counseling service can hep you find a legal aid service or low fee lawyer to do this for you. Someone who is the sole support of their family,(usually with minor children) and not earning over certain limits, (differs by State) is exempt from garnishment.Bankruptcy is a terrible thing to go through at any age, however if it is a choice of getting a fresh start at a young age, or having a crushing burden that could easily lead to bankruptcy later on, I would opt to get it over with.
