Well, yes anyone can sue anyone for anything in this country. Exactly what is the $700? A deductible? a copayment? Did you discuss this with the hospital? Have they billed you for it previously?

Medical billing can be a nightmare for the average consumer. I handle my Mom's medical bills and insurance (along with my own, LOL), and she gets billed for something the insurance should have paid about twice a year. If I didn't know what to do, she would have paid a lot of medical bills that she actually didn't owe.

Look over your paperwork and see if you can figure out what it is, and let us know.

The fact that she is a student and unemployed doesn't make her immune to medical bills. Most states have assistance programs, but you have to apply for them to get them.
