I need some help. I attended a beauty school in 1998 for a very short time. When I withdrew from the school the paperwork they gave me said that I owed them no money and they owed me no money (they took pell grants & student loans, then distributed the money to me monthly). A few months later I got a letter saying that I owed them $585. I disputed that & we went back and forth for a few months. I had 2 different collection agencies contact me (see earlier post), I disputed the debt with them. For almost 2 years now I haven't heard anything, till last Friday. I got a call from someone from a Lawyers office in San Mateo CA, I'm in Idaho. When I asked why a lawyer was involved in a small claims case she hung up on me! Do I need to be concerned about this? Can they do anything? I did some digging, and it is an attoneys office. My husband thinks I shouldn't send them anything. Any help would be much appreciated.
