Lien on my Bank A/c - Please Help

I have had attorneys acting on behalf of American Express put a $13,000 lien on my Bank a/c. $8,000 was seized leaving me with a negative balance of $5000. The original summons was back in Feb 2001 in New York Court for $6,557 plus interest plus a $250 legal fee. Does $13,000 plus sound excessive in light of the fact that the original summons would have been for less than $7,000
What should I do now ? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks
