I understand that a settlement for less than the total owed witha creditor could lead to further collection efforts by others. This just seems wrong to me. If someone agrees to settle how can they then act as if the debt remains unpaid??

Is there a way to word a settlement letter offer so as to prevent the above from happening? Such as "A signing of this settlement also means that YOU THE CREDITOR will pursue no more action against me yourself, nor give, hire, or sell such information to others to make any further collection attempts"?
