Student Loan a derog?

I have a student loan on deferment but it is showing up on my credit report under the derog. remarks section. By the creditor name, it says something to the effect of "contact creditor to verify status" or something like that. This is in deferment, the credit report even says that and I have papers and everything to prove it so why is it considered a negative?
