Chex System - Why Pay?

I went to open a bank account and found out that I had a debt through B of A and it was being reported on Chex System. I payed the collection agency the debt and contacted ChexSystem who stated that I still had to be listed for the remainder of the five years unless B of A report to them that they reported me in error. I called B of A and of course they didn't help, my question is this, Why should anyone pay the debt if they are already listed on Chexsystem if they aren't going to remove you anyway???
