The credit reporting system is not about restitution. It's about RETRIBUTION. The system is designed to be harsh and unforgiving to act as a deterrent.

They want to make you miserable so that you will say to other people, "Hey, don't end up like me--unable to get a bank account anywhere. Don't bounce that check."

That happened to me. I couldn't get a bank account for years over some misdeed of mine. Thank GOD that particular problem is behind me, because it was unbearable.

Once I understood that the system is about retribution, I was a lot less frustrated.

I know it doesn't help much.
