woohoo good old risk management alternatives. I just sent them an intent to sue letter. They are the kings of collecting SOL debts. Before I say this understand that in no way is every situation the same so proceed at your own risk. I have had RMA try and collect on 3 debts over the last 8 years. This was from the bad old debt filled college days. They never tried that hard and they never took me to court so the SOLs hit. Oddly enough lately I have heard from 2 of them frequently but it is too late. For me ignoring them worked but it may not be in every case. They are a HUGE company and they violate people's rights all the time.CHECK THIS OUT. CCs are an open ended account. The SOL in texas and georgia is 4 years. As long as the chargeoff is before 8/98 it cannot be collected on. If it has been charged off before that then send them a cease and desist letter and tell them the SOL is up and they cannot collect and if they file a lawsuit against you then you will counterclaim for slander, fraud, and violations of the FDCPA. This company loves to buy up SOL debts and this is what they did. They probably paid $20 for your debt. If the chargeoff was from 9/98-12/98(you did say the chargeoff was 1998 right) then simply lay low, ignore all calls, and do nothing to call attention to yourself. You only have 4 months left. BTW, what month was the chargeoff. Make sure you have something in writing whether it is on your credit report or whatever that says the chargeoff was in 1998 in case they try funny business. Do not, and I repeat do not, talk to them over the phone. Do not even pick it up.
