I believe you are referring to a judgment extension - The SOL for judgments in NY is 10 years...if left unpaid the creditor can apply for a 10 year extension.

A faster method of removing the judgment from your CR and eliminating the threat of the extension [ with the 8% interest ] is to pay it. NY judgments are removed from the CRs in 5 years if paid.
