From the type of information you are giving about what the collecton agency said, it is pretty certain that they are NOT a legitimate legal collection agency.

There is NO way that anyone can be sued on a deficiency from a repo after a period of time. When was the car repossessed? Did your husband get sent the notices of repossession, a settlement statement,a right of redemption?

It is not legal to file suit or to try to recover a deficiency from a repossession UNLESS the repssession was done legallymand everyone involved was properly notified.

If this scam ca calls back, request their mailing address,if they refuse, tell them they are being recorded for the purpose of your filing charges against them for fraudulent extortion.

If you receive their address, or get anything in the mail from them, send them a cease and desist and validation letter, demanding all documentation of a legal repossession.
