Your "troublesome" guest was smart enough to notify the collection agencies in writing to only contact him by mail. Assuming you ARE being contacted by collection agencies, send them registered return receipt letters demanding they only contact you by mail. If you are still being contacted by your original creditors, you are out of luck unless you are in Cal.
