Camco rears its ugly head in Tampa/St Petersburg, and I wanna be prepared!

I got a call today from someone from Camco. Left a message with no details but a phone number which is how I found who they are.

All I can think of, after finding you all, is that I defaulted on about $1500-2000 Credit Card debt in 1988-1989. I bought a house in the late 1990s and there was NOTHING about this on my credit report or I wouldn't have a mortgage.

Last year, outta the blue, a $6000 debt appeared on my credit report -- from some credit agency in Florida near where I bought my house in the 90s. (I found out cuz I pulled my credit report to buy a car after I was quoted a ridulously high interest rate).

I was aghast. All I can figure is that Citicorp, after writing my debt off, sold my debt to someone, although that flew in the face of all I understood about bad debts going off the record in so many years.

I have ignored that CA's repeated letters and considered them ridiculous. After all, if I had declared bankruptcy back in 1988, I wouldn't have a problem.

All I can figure is that Camco bought the "debt" from the local credit collector who bought it from Citicorp . . . that debt I thought had been written off 15 years ago. Amazing!

Anything you can tell me I'll really, really appreciate. I don't know anything more about them or their scam than what I am reading here.

Thanks for your input.

PS I posted this earlier as a response to another camco thread but figured it would be better to have its own header.
