I am in Louisiana. Here is my payment history, I'm not even sure how it became a collection item: 1-29-02 $319.22 balance due 2-04-02 -$349.20 payment made 2-28-02 ($29.98)credit 3-30-02 ($29.98)credit THIS IS WHEN THEY SAID IT WAS CHARGED OFF. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A BALANCE DUE IN MARCH 02!!! 4-29-02 $696.66 balance due 5-29-02 -$666.68 payment made 6-29-02 $1771.53 new balance due 7-23-02 -$300.00 payment made 8-29-02 $1499.87 new balance due 9-27-02 -$310.37 merchandise credit to account 10-29-02 $1200.56 account sent to collection 1. I don't understand how it was sent to collection, I didn't even have a balance due until 4-02, and made a payment on 5-29-02, 7-23-02 and had a credit posted on 9-27-02. 2. I don't understand where they got the collection date of 3-02, the account was current and paid to date in 3-02. I wasn't contacted by the collection agency until 10-02. I started to contact the credit bureau to dispute the dates, etc., but figured it was better to show a collection date of 3-02 instead of 10-02 (since 3-02 is almost over a year). I didn't have the money to pay the balance in full in Sept and Oct when American Express started calling, and still didn't when the collection agency started calling in October. I can't refinance my mortgage from a 9.375 rate to a 7.00 rate without paying off the debt. I just want to make sure when I do pay it off, I cover everything I need to cover to protect myself and my credit rating. Thank you.
