Problems with Chase

Okay, I got a car in Jan. 1998 using a leasing program. Worse mistake of my life. When the 4 years was up I wanted to pay the disposal fee and get out of the loan. Once I returend the car Chase sent me a letter saying I owed them $1,800 in damages to the car. It was in perfect condition! I payed the $250 disposal fee, but was unable to come up with the remaining $1500 for the "damages." A few months went by with no payment and I tried to work something out with Chase. They were very rude and hositle to me when I would call. Finally I just started to send monthly payment in on my own each month. I have been doing that for the past 6 mths. I have even spoken with my rep about his issue and she said okay well you are paying what you can.

What bothers me is that Chase is still reporting the ballon payment of over 13k to the credit bureau instead of the $1,500 I owe as my balance. And weirder that my account last month said "open/current, scheduled to go to postitive status in 2005." I was wondering why it didn't say something worse? But anyway, I have been having problems getting loans since it appers on my report that I owe Chase 13k for the car. So I requested an online dispute and wanted Chase to update my report to the credit bureau with the accurate balance. So I just got the update from Experian in the mail today. Now it says it is a charge off? Before it didn't say that? I requested this last month, Feb. I have been making payments to Chase and spoke with my rep last month and she didn't mention a charge off. So it says, "Account charged off. $200 written off. Charge off as of Feb. 2003, will continue on record till 2005." What the heck does this mean? Why does it say they charged off $200 when my balance was $1500? And why is it still going to go off my record in 2005? And one more thing....can they charge it off when I am still making payments? Should I still make the montyly payments I have been if it has been charged off? Agh! Need help!
