Which brings us to another fine film, L.A. Confidential, a charming story set in the early nineteen fifties. Premise is that the cops, not rival gangsters, are killing the crooks so as to take over the rackets.
Of course, the cops are merely the field agents, the first phalanx if you will, acting on behalf of the District Attorney, political poohbahs, and of course, greaszeball 'businessmen'. The latter group would find itself well represented throughout the credit card and collection industry several decades hence.
The D.A., beautifully played by Ron Rifkin if memory serves aright, smugly boasts that he's the guy who 'practically invented that good cop - bad cop routine.' Unfortunately, as with so many smug little termites, he receives a taste of his own noxious castor oil, whining all the way in manner of a stuck little piggie-wiggie. Charming.
And of course this is what we enjoy today, racketeers so feckless, so craven, so utterly impuscent to their inner core that they 'troll' this and other fine boards in futile effort to overcome their innate inadequacies.
After all, were they at all up to par, they'd surely not be hiding in some mens' room of an 'orifice', screaming obscenities via telephone at women young and old, in order to get money. Pitiful. A sure sign of societal carcinoma.
By the by, a charming story re Master Card throwing in the towel, possibly having to settle for about fifty nine billion, tha's right, with a 'b'. Long brewing lawsuit involving them and Visa and their efforts to shake down merchants by forcing them to process debit card sales through their system, as opposed to more economical and of course, private, processors.
One down, as they say, one to go. Fifty nine billion dollars, boy, a bancard manager or CA doot-fly manager could sure procure a lotta exotic far eastern pool 'technicians' with that kinda settlement.
Brought to you by the same pig-plops who con elderly disabled women into foregoing medication for two months under threat of prison so they could scrime a few dollars more. Nice touch, that.
The same fine and edumacated gaggle of gargoyles who goaded a proud Latino family man who knew nothing more than hard work into killing himself in order that yet more lucre could be salted into the well-larded derriere of the CA owner. Charming crowd.
Yeah, CA people are very nice, plus friendly, and also too very kind and caring as well. And Saddam Hussein was really just a writer of gentle romance novels (true!) whose torture and killing of his subjects really was nothing more than just a little frustration over writers' block.
Like that Chairman Mao guy, you know, the cherubic little incubus with the enigmatic smile. He was also a very, very, nice man who just wanted to help his fellow countrymen to live a better life, so he had to bayonett some of them, alright, a lot of them in order to help them. So what, hey, he was nice too. Plus also very softspoken, just like Uncle Joe Stalin. Never raised his voice. Adhered to the ' highest industry standards', another 'highly trained collections professional."
Trolls, like regular renal emissions, a naturally occurring process without which we could not live.
